2. THE SPIES Extravagant spooks everywhere. They know much. They do much. But they still can’t get to the roots.
3. HYDERABAD The name. The glass bangles. And the opulence of the past. The Indian Hyderabad had the best jewels. The Pakistani Hyderabad washed its roads with river water.
4. THE TRAFFIC The bizarre rush. The incomprehension of rules.
5. THE DYNASTIES They have the Bhuttos and the Sharifs. We have the Nehru-Gandhis and the rest.
6. THE CORRUPTION Virtually institutionalised. Nothing moves otherwise. Very familiar.
7. THE TWIN METROS Lahore and Delhi. Two power centres. Karachi and Mumbai. Two commercial capitals.
8. DAWOOD IBRAHIM One don, two nations.
9. THE FEUDALISM Zamindars there, and here. A terrible cocktail of misplaced ego and empty-headedness.
10. THE KASHMIR OBSESSION They can’t think anything else. Neither can we.
