RIAA Totally Out Of Touch: Lashes Out At Google,... →
Excellent teardown by TechDirt of RIAA’s op-ed piece on SOPA and PIPA.
The RIAA & MPAA are increasingly looking like dinosaurs, old monolithic organizations failing to adapt to the new generation, the way music & entertainment is now being sold around the world.
If RIAA had their way, I would still have to buy an $18 piece of plastic with 10 songs just to listen to one.

"Programmer" is an Overgeneralization →
It is no longer enough to simply ask someone if they are a programmer. Saying a programmer writes programs is like saying a scientist does science. The difference is that botanists don’t design nuclear reactors.

Not Windows. Not Office. Microsoft.
The iPhone did not exist five years ago. And now it’s bigger than a company that, 15 years ago, was dragged into court and threatened with forcible break-up because it had amassed an unassailable and unthinkably profitable monopoly.
The iPhone also appears to be considerably more profitable than Microsoft.

Some things we now know to be good ideas:
Writing operating systems in a compiled machine-independent programming language.
Performing file I/O by reading, writing, or overwriting integral numbers of bytes at integral offsets.
Creating processes by duplicating existing processes.
Null-terminated byte strings.
Investing a substantial proportion of programmers’ time in building...

I got burnt by using RSS too much. I loved reading as many tech and photography blogs as I could, but after while the unread counter just kept increasing.
Now I’m RSS free, use a few aggregate sites and only use RSS for the sites that don’t update much.

1. THE NATIONAL SPORT
Field hockey. The heights, the crash, and the struggle ever since. Eerily Indian.
2. THE SPIES
Extravagant spooks everywhere. They know much. They do much. But they still can’t get to the roots.
3. HYDERABAD
The name. The glass bangles. And the opulence of the past. The Indian Hyderabad had the best jewels. The Pakistani Hyderabad washed its roads with river water.
